Latest headline from the drunk in Massachusetts: "Senate Lion Ted Kennedy Roars Once Again for National Health Care." He wants it to be his legacy. His crown achievement. Like drowning a woman wasn't enough.
Wow.....where do I start.
First.....I would say, "Lead by Example".....meaning, all Senators and Representatives need to be put on National Health Care. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Suck it up, Ted, and show us the way! Oh, wait....you wouldn't do that, would you? Nope. Because you know if you did it would be months, maybe even years before your brain tumor would have been treated. In fact, you would probably be dead from the tumor before seeing the operating room.
Oops, well that doesn't work, so I guess there is no chance of that, is there. Instead, we can count on them telling us how nice it would be if everyone in the country had health care that they can use at any time without regard for cost. Play on the heartstrings of everyone out there who can't make it now.
Fine.....go for it. Push it through.......but let me tell you this.....I warned you. You want an instant lesson on socialized medicine? Look at the military! We have it in place for the hundreds of thousands that put their lives on the line for us every single day. As anyone you know in the military how great their coverage is. They will laugh at you.
Doctors don't give a $h!t about you in socialized medicine. They get X amount of dollars per procedure to treat us, the living. Regardless of how good or how crappy of physicians they are, the price is the same. So, is there incentive to do a good job and spend a bit more time to make sure this person is getting the proper treatment? Nope. You become a number. The more they can see in one day, regardless of real ability, drives them to make more money. They pump you out like cows in the barn. Not only is the price they can charge set, but they still have the same risk of being sued or other legal actions against them. Thus, the good doctors will eventually go elsewhere (other countries that will pay) and we are left with the doctors that just don't care. Eventually, no one in the industry has any incentive to do well. You get the same treatment as you would get from the High School social pariah working at TCBY who is more concerned about achieving 24,000 texts per month to set a new record. No matter how hard they work or how lazy they are, the same monetary amount will be theirs for the taking at the end of the day. Punching the clock.
Look at Canada. If their health care is so great, why do the seniors flock down here when they know they have something going wrong with them? Because they can get things like MRI's and CAT scans to boost their chances of proper diagnosis. At home, they have a waiting list.
Pretty soon it gets to be like the Netherlands, where you are less valued when you are older and your spot in the Nursing home is waiting to be filled by the next. They literally wait for you to die. NEXT!
Focus on the real issue. Why is health care so expensive? Maybe it is the ridiculous lawsuits that come out of malpractice or medication side effect cases. "Your anti-inflammatory drug, which has added many quality years of life, with its clearly labeled all encompassing side effect list that I chose not to read cause American Idol was on maybe killed my 83 year old father. I am in so much pain from his unexpected loss. Gimmie $123,000 for medical bills and funeral expenses and $74 million for pain and suffering. My lawyer says we deserve it and I agree (even though most of it will go to lawyers)."
Ah......for another post some day when I am not tired.
